How to Apply for the NIA-GRA Program

Prospective Full-Time Students

NIA-GRA Program

Students interested in participating in the NIA-GRA Program full time must apply for acceptance at one of our university partners.  Once you have applied as a graduate student, you will need to address a cover letter to NIA, stating the following information:

• 

Your interest in full-time graduate study

• 

Name of the school(s) where you have applied

• 

Name of the degree program (MS or PhD) and the field of study



You will also need the follow items:

• 

A copy of your resume

• 

An original transcript, including any graduate courses taken. NIA will accept a copy of your transcript with the original going to the university.

Prospective Part-Time Students

Students looking to pursue a degree part time must apply for admission at one of our university partners. Once you have applied as a graduate student, you must contact us in order to take classes at NIA.

Hampton University offers a separate focused program in atmospheric sciences through NIA. Students can pursue either a master’s or doctoral degree with thesis or dissertation research conducted at NASA Langley Research Center in collaboration with a NASA mentor.

All courses and faculty advising are provided on campus at Hampton University. A limited number of graduate research assistantships are available for tuition, stipend and travel. Students interested should apply directly to Hampton University, and state in a cover letter their interest in the atmospheric sciences program through NIA.
