Small Satellite Systems Research
Objective
To provide multidisciplinary research and development on pico-/nano-/micro-class of small satellites through the development of innovative and technology and systems engineering based on a multi-satellite constellation
Why it Matters
Provides a platform for earth observation that:
- Lower spacecraft cost
- Reduced time to market
- Reduced mass
- 4-D model through a heterogeneous suite of satellites
Recent Accomplishments
- Developed a model-based systems engineering process that is formal, responsive, agile
- Created an interdisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to develop small satellite earth observations missions for space weather and gravimetry
- Developed an inter-satellite communication system that will enable multi-satellite coordinated missions
