NASA Langley Research Center, in collaboration with the National Institute of Aerospace, Virginia Tech, and North Carolina State University received the 2015 Best Technical Development within Energy Harvesting and Storage award for the development of their multistage force amplification piezoelectric energy harvester. The device demonstrated increases in power output, truly advancing piezoelectric energy harvesting power from milliWatts to the Watt level. The award is given to a company that has launched a new product based on Energy Harvesting in the last 24 months (November 2013 – November 2015) and is in the process of bringing it to market. The award was announced on November 18th, at the IDTechEX Energy Harvesting and Storage USA 2015 conference in Santa Clara, CA, an event that attracted 3000 attendees from over 40 countries.

This technology was invented and developed by the multidisciplinary team of Tian-Bing Xu (NIA/Langley), Emilie J. Siochi (Langley), Lei Zuo (VT), Xiaoning Jiang (NCSU), Jin Ho Kang (NIA/Langley), and Wanlu Zhou (VT).
