Below are just a few examples of awards NIA has graciously received.
Emmy Awards
National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences
The Emmy® Award is the industry’s benchmark for the recognition of television excellence. NIA’s staff have been nominated for numerous Emmy Awards and have won multiple times in technical categories as well as for individual shows and series.
Telly Awards
The Telly Awards honor the very best local, regional and cable television commercials and programs, as well as the finest video and film productions, and work created for the Web.
NIA has won more than a dozen Telly awards including the 30th anniversary “Golden” Telly Award. In 2020, NIA won four Telly awards for “Faces of Technology: Women of NASA,” “NASA Challenges the Public to Convert CO2 into Sugar,” “Optical Mining,” and “Farewell Opportunity.”
Webby Awards
The Webby Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet. Established in 1996 during the Web’s infancy, The Webbys is presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS)—a 2000+ member judging body.
NIA’s first Webby Award was for NASA’s Home & City, which was recently updated with version 3.0.
NASA’s first digital, interactive graphic novel, “First Woman: NASA’s Promise for Humanity,” won two Webby Awards in 2022: Webby Winner (voted on by the Academy) and People’s Voice Winner (public vote). NIA led the project for NASA, collaborating with bully! entertainment to inspire the next generation of explorers – the Artemis Generation. 2022’s Webby Awards was the largest in history, with more than 14,000 entries from all 50 U.S. states and 70 countries and nearly 2 million votes cast for the Webby People’s Voice.
W3 Awards
The W3 Award, sanctioned and judged by the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts, celebrates digital excellence by honoring outstanding Websites, Web Marketing, Video, Mobile Sites/Apps & Social content.
In 2021, NASA 360 won five W3 Awards for “NASA Cooks Up Something Special with Deep Space Food Challenge,” “Behind the Spacecraft – Perseverance Mars Rover,” “Countdown to Mars: A Story of Perseverance,” “NASA Science Live: We’re Going to Venus – NASA Selects Two New Missions,” and “Robotic Bees Designed to Explore Mars.”
Communicator Awards
The Communicator Awards is the leading international awards program recognizing big ideas in marketing and communications. Founded over two decades ago, The Communicator Awards receives over 6,000 entries from companies and agencies of all sizes, making it one of the largest awards of its kind in the world. The Communicator Awards honors work that transcends innovation and craft – work that makes a lasting impact.
Accolade Video Awards
Established in 2003, Accolade Global Film Competition is an avant-garde worldwide competition that strives to give talented directors, producers, actors, creative teams and new media creators the positive exposure they deserve. It discovers and honors the achievements of filmmakers who produce high quality shorts and new media.
DV Awards
The DV Awards is an international competition celebrating outstanding creative and technical achievements in the emerging world of digital video production. Categories recognized include independent films, commercials, corporate communications and industrial videos to 3D animation, special effects and event videos.

NASA Group Achievement Award
Presented to the Hubble 25th Anniversary Team for “Making the Hubble Space Telescope 25th Anniversary Events Extraordinary” and TEDxNASA events.
SciFest 2016 Best Workshop Innovation
In 2018, Scifest Africa attracted more than 62,000 visitors and offered a festival program that consisted of 65 exhibitions and 701 events, presented by 284 contributors from 77 organizations in South Africa and the international STI sector.
