National Institute of Aerospace Named #3 on 2019 Best Nonprofits To Work For
April 11, 2019
The National Institute of Aerospace (NIA), Hampton, Va., has been named as one of the 2019 Best Nonprofits To Work For. The Nonprofit Times partnered with Best Companies Group to identify nonprofit organizations that excel in creating quality workplaces for employees. NIA ranked third in this year’s list of 50 organizations. “I am overwhelmed with the news that we were ranked third in the entire country,” said Dr. Douglas Stanley, President and Executive Director of NIA. “I am particularly pleased that this honor comes from our excellent benefits and our employees who respond anonymously to an extensive workplace survey.”
To be considered for participation, organizations must be a nonprofit organization with 501 (c) 3 status in business in the United States for at least one year. NIA ranked second among medium-size organizations on the list, those with 50-249 employees.
Nonprofits of all sizes from across the United States entered the two-part survey process to determine Best Nonprofits To Work For. The first part consisted of evaluating each nominated organization’s workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics. The second part consisted of a confidential employee survey to measure the employee experience. Questions elicited responses about corporate culture, communication, role satisfaction, work environment, and relationships with supervisors. The combined scores determined the top nonprofits and the final ranking. Best Companies Group managed the overall registration and survey process, analyzed the data and determined the ranking.
This survey and awards program is designed to identify, recognize and honor the best employers in the nonprofit industry, benefiting the industry’s economy, workforce and businesses. “NIA’s employees are what make this organization great,” says Cathy Hopkins, Director of Human Resources. “The leadership team recognizes the importance of providing excellent benefits, opportunity for growth, flexibility to balance work and family life, and creating a culture where everyone enjoys coming to work.”
NIA was previously named as one of the Best Nonprofits To Work For in 2014 and in 2017.
