As the Integrator, National Institute of Aerospace manages the integration and administration of NASA’s Advanced Composite Consortium (ACC) public-private partnership with thirteen organizations to conduct coordinated research and technology development projects primarily focused on advancing the use of composite materials and structures into aerospace applications (I.e. airframe and engine applications). NIA manages communications within the consortium and the programmatic and financial aspects of members’ research projects. NASA formed the consortium in support of the Advanced Composites Project, which is part of the Advanced Air Vehicles Program in the agency’s Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate. The project’s goal is to reduce product development and certification timelines by 30 percent for composites infused into aeronautics applications.
The consortium includes NASA, the Federal Aviation Administration, Aurora Flight Sciences Corporation, The Boeing Company, Collier Research and Development Corporation, General Electric Company, Lockheed Martin Corporation, ATK Space Systems Inc., Spirit AeroSystems, Inc., University of South Carolina, United Technologies Corporation, Wichita State University, and the National Institute of Aerospace.
