Abstract
Artificial Intelligence has the potential to advance every civilization on earth and those that venture into space, beyond what our ancestors could have imagined.
For humankind to avoid catastrophic futures and reap the benefits from this emerging digital partner, there is an urgent need to shepherd the ethical quality of the digital mindset of AI. If used wisely, AI Ethics has the potential to alleviate the diversification challenge of two intelligences – one organic the other artificial – and bring both together within a common foundation to partner with meaning and purpose.
To resolve this intelligence alignment challenge and create a common and sustainable foundation based on ethics, i.e. to integrate both logic and ethical mandates, requires an Ethical AI Framework. This presents new potential to formulate a wholesome and balanced digital brain to ensure that AI complies with human ethics and principles.
In his talk, Matthew James Bailey will explain a pioneering Ethical AI Certification and Maturity Model™ that creates a sustainable, intelligence-centric foundation for NASA and NIA to confidently progress Ethical AI centric futures for NASA missions. Furthermore, Katalin Bártfai-Walcott from the Intel Corporation will discuss ethical and moral implications and considerations for data and artificial intelligence through a breakthrough innovation called Ambient World.
Ethical AI is a turbulent solution space which will evolve rapidly over the coming years. However, it is important to begin taking practical steps to encourage ethical AI now. Bailey and Bártfai-Walcott will explore over-the horizon topics, and will recommend first steps to encourage and measure ethical AI practices for current work. Many NASA organizations will be discussing and debating ethical AI in the near future; the Ethical AI Certification and Maturity Model™ can contribute strongly to those discussions.
