Bringing more than 30 years legal and technology transfer experience to his position, Karl Drews serves as the Vice President of Operations and Technology Transfer, and as the Secretary for the National Institute of Aerospace since 2003. In this capacity, he advises the management team on contractual technology issues and oversees the Contracts; Purchasing; Business Administration; Human Resources; Facilities, Property Management, Public Relations and Technology Transfer.

Prior to joining the National Institute of Aerospace, Dr. Drews served as the Assistant General Counsel for SAGA Software and SAGNA, an affiliate of Software AG, a Darmstadt, Germany company, with offices internationally. During his tenure with these companies, Dr. Drews worked in a number of capacities and served as Acting General Counsel for SAGA Software. Dr. Drews retired from Software AG in 2001. Prior to working with Software AG, Drews was the General Counsel and Director of Contracts for Computer Dynamics, Inc. from 1986 to 1992 From 1982-1986, Dr. Drews was a Senior Analyst with M. Rosenblatt & Sons, Naval Architects. Prior to this time, Dr. Drews was a Lead Attorney with Bowne Information Systems, New York, developing complex commercial litigation databases.

Dr. Drews also enjoys writing and is currently writing a book on World War II Submarine Captains.

Dr. Drews holds a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law, The College of William and Mary, and a Bachelor of Arts from Old Dominion University.
